You're Engaged. So Now What?

I often get asked around this time of year, "What comes next?" If you or anyone in your life is recently engaged, here is our post-engagement short list of what should happen next...

  1. By now you've most likely gotten a manicure and posted a ring selfie, but if you haven't, telling your family and friends should be the next thing you do! After all, it's not official until it's on Instagram.

  2. Next you should get your ring sized and insured. You're displaying a beautiful gemstone on your finger, so you want to be sure it fits well and is covered should it be lost or stolen.

  3. The next smart step is to enlist a wedding planner. You wouldn't purchase a home without a realtor, so why would you spend tens of thousands of dollars without the knowledge of an experienced professional who can guide you on all aspects of the planning process?!

  4. Start discussing dates with your fiancé and family. If you can, it's best to first narrow down to a few options, then call your place of worship to see if they can accommodate your date.

  5. It's hard to get too far along in the process without having an idea of how many guests you are inviting and how much money you want to spend. Start with simply jotting down names of who you, your fiancé and parents ideally would like to invite. That way you haven't gone to the effort of researching addresses should you need to pare down the list. Once you have a comfortable number to invite, you can work on adding the addresses. We offer our clients a great template for this process, as well as a guide on the way to properly address all the different types of couples there are.

  6. And from there starts the planning process with visiting venues available on your date, followed by the checklist provided by your planner that should be customized to you, your wedding date and vision.
